Museum & Stewart Historical Society
Stewart has a colourful past shaped by unbelievable tales, semi-nomadic First Nations presence, gold rush booms and busts, forestry development, and northern isolation. Explore this past at Stewart's Historical Museum.
The Stewart Museum is operated by the Stewart Historical Society, which was established in 1975. Its museum was opened in 1976. The museum acquires artifacts, archival records and historical reference material relating to Stewart, Hyder (B.C. and Alaska), and Premier, as well as that of industry (notably mining) in the Stewart area.
To learn about Stewart's history and view artifacts, visit the local Museum. While there, pick up a Walking Tour of Historic Houses and Buildings in the Stewart booklet. The booklet includes a touring map and information on significant local residences, churches and rail houses.
