2019 Byelection

When is the 2019 Byelection?

The Byelection for the office of Councillor in the District of Stewart will be Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 8 am to 8 pm. 

Do I qualify to vote?  (for more information, visit the "Answers to Frequently Asked Questions" page

You may vote in a BC local election as a Resident Elector if you:

  • are a Canadian citizen
  • are 18 years of age or more on general voting day
  • have lived in BC for at least 6 months before you register to vote
  • have lived in the District of Stewart for 30 days or more before you register to vote
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.

       Non-Resident Property Electors:

  • 18 years of age older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a registered owner of real property in the District of Stewart for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • not entitled to register as a resident elector; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law; and if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

Public Notice:  Siren Warning System Test - FOLLOW-UP

The District of Stewart conducted a test of the Emergency Siren Warning System on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 12:00pm.
Do not have concern if you did not hear the test, as the sirens were only activated briefly.  For more information - please see the attached notice in this link.
