Stewart RCMP's New Approach to Bears in Town

Stewart RCMP's New Approach to Bears in Town
JUL 14, 2023

The Stewart RCMP wishes to advise the residents of Stewart that we have developed a non-lethal plan to deal with the grizzly and black bears that frequent our community.  We have been working with the Conservation Service of BC and now have options available that will allow us to manage the bears in a humane way without an immediate response of lethal means.  The residents of Stewart should continue to call in bears that are in the area to the Conservation Service of BC at 1-877-952-7277 who will then contact Stewart RCMP members to respond to the bear as appropriate.  Residents can feel safe in the community knowing the initial response by Stewart RCMP members won’t be shooting the bears with lethal options.

Any questions feel free to speak with Constable Hansen at the Stewart RCMP Detachment at 1-250-636-2233.
