Snow Removal

During the snow and ice conditions the District of Stewart works extra hard to maintain a safe town for residents and visitors. This includes snow removal and ice control measures as well as resources to assist your family to prepare for emergency situations. The cooperation of citizens is requested to assist us in achieving this goal, particularly in preventing vehicles from interfering with snow clearing operations and by keeping snow cleared from their driveway on their own property.

In 2011 Council approved Snow Removal Policy.

The goal of the Policy is to maintain the District’s roadways, back lanes, sidewalks, active transportation trails and designated park pathways in such a manner so as to:

  • Provide safe and accessible operating conditions for motorists and pedestrians;
  • Reduce the hazards of icy road conditions;
  • Minimize economic losses to the community and industry resulting from unsatisfactory winter driving conditions;
  • Facilitate the handling of emergencies by Police, Fire and Ambulance Services during the winter;

For the purpose of snow clearing, the street system has been classified in three priority categories. Please, check the map of snow removal routes.

November is Adoption Awareness Month

At the November 13, 2018 Regular Council meeting, Council made a motion to join the Province in proclaiming November as Adoption Awareness Month.

Water Quality Advisory

There have been reports from residents (Nov 14 2018) experiencing brown or discoloured water in the community.  If your household is experiencing this issue, please allow your cold water tap to run until the water clears.  Additionally, please see the attached Water Quality Advisory notice (still in effect) with information and recommendations.  

Call for Nominations:  Board of Variance

The District of Stewart is looking for interested people to sit on its Board of Variance.  This board is appointed by Council for a term of 3 years.  The board meets only when needed and fulfils the duties as per Bylaw #881, 2014 and according to the Local Government Act, Sec. 899.  Please see the attached notice for more information.

2018 Christmas Card Competition-DEADLINE EXTENDED

For those that were hoping to submit an entry, GOOD NEWS - the deadline has been extended until Monday, November 19 at 4:30pm. So, all of you local artists and photographers still have time to participate by submitting your original artwork or photograph to the District office.
